Iliahtida is an old rural house built in the late 1800s in Tristomo of Karpathos Island. Recently we have restore this traditional building converting it into a green touristic residence with agrotourism activities.
It is particularly important to note that the restoration of Iliahtida is done with absolute respect for the natural, architectural and traditional destinations of the area. The work we did in the house kept its main character by rebuilding the sofa (traditional Karpathian bed) and the wooden roof. We placed biological wastewater treatment system, water treatment system, photovoltaic system and solar water heater, work that was essential to the functionality of this touristic accommodation.
Tristomo is a virgin area where there is no basic infrastructure such as water and electricity. In Iliahtida we created these infrastructure plus we did the necessary steps to be able to have internet, telephone and satellite TV. Additionally we focus on the development of agri-tourism activities, resulting on a tourist residence able to offer the revival of traditional daily activities without the restriction of just the regular renting. For this we bought equipment to have functional traditional laboratories situated in Iliahtida, such as Karpathian wood oven, the “Mitato” (small cheese factory) and wine press.
Iliahtida aims to provide an opportunity for people who like to choose alternative forms of tourism, especially in pristine areas of ecological value such as Tristomo with a strong element of participation and a combination of relaxation with a trip through time, experiencing traditional activities of Karpathos. But alongside the use of new technologies in green growth and in cooperation with the Greek nature conservation company, we aim to be a Green tourist residence model (standard) with ecological consciousness that could be useful and help in developing but also in protecting this special place.
